aroa was built with the intention to make you realise that you own your time — not the apps on your phone that have somehow become central parts of your life. This is how aroa hands that choice back to you.
Or head straight to FAQsMost apps either block your access entirely or gamify your habits with streaks and scores. Both approaches treat phone use as a problem to fix — and most people uninstall them within days. aroa doesn’t block or judge. It adds a moment of awareness to your day, so you stay in control without being managed.
aroa catches you in the moments that slip by unnoticed — when 1 minute becomes 20, or when you’ve opened 5 apps without meaning to. It doesn’t stop you. It simply offers a pause at the right moment, so you can choose what you actually want to do.
Distracting Apps are the apps you want to be more intentional about. Once you select them, aroa gently steps in each time you open one — making sure every interaction is a choice, not a reflex.
Awareness States reflect how you’re doing at any given point in the day, based on how much time you’ve spent on your Distracting Apps and how frequently you’ve been opening them. aroa uses this to slightly adjust your experience over time — not to restrict you, but to meet you where you are.
Intercepts are the pause screens that appear when you open a Distracting App. They’re aroa’s way of creating a pause between you and the app — just enough space to make a conscious choice.
On days when distractions feel overwhelming and you need a hard reset, Hardcore Mode lets you block your Distracting Apps completely for 24 hours. No exceptions, no override.
Some days you just need a break from it all. Pause aroa puts aroa to rest for 24 hours — no intercepts, no nudges. It can be activated once every 4 days.
No ads. No selling your data. We track how you use aroa itself — never the apps you’re pausing on, or what you do in them. Your journal entries sync securely across your devices, so you never lose them. No images or audio are ever stored — just your words.
On iOS, aroa asks for Screen Time access through Apple’s own permission screen so it can recognize when you open a Distracting App. It cannot read your screen content, messages, or what you type.

No. Raw app-level usage data stays on your device. aroa does not receive the specific apps you open or the times you open them. And even if that ever changed, we would never sell, share, or use it in any way that isn’t in your interest. That’s not a policy position. It’s just not who we are.
Go to Settings and update your Distracting Apps list anytime. Changes take 3 hours to come into effect. This is intentional, so the update can’t be used in a moment of distraction.
